What a gathering… What a reunion… What an irony…

In fond memories, my colleague, friend, mentor - Janice Shiau

“Think on the more positive side, she didn’t suffer at all”… “Well, at least her loved ones spent the last dinner with her”… These are what most of us thought when we came to know about Janice’s sudden demise. Ever since she left the country station for her new role in the regional office, we hardly get to see or speak to her. But there are also times where we found time to share a quick chuckle, ask about one another’s doing, or even a simple smile to ascertain one another is doing ok…

It was too sudden a shock for us all… She was only 33. She left behind her hubby, her mother and her daughter of 3, whom like her - is the only child in the family. Heard from other colleagues that she recently went for a medical review and it stated no sign of illness.

So what happened? This was what the colleagues managed to gather…

She was out dining with her hubby and uncle last Sunday night. Everything was ok as they drove home. The moment she started to alight from the vehicle, she simply fainted and her body went completely limp. Body fluid just discharged itself automatically from her body… Within minutes, she was drained of colors. Shocked as he was, her hubby rushed her to the hospital immediately but it was a little too late too soon.. Janice is gone.

Doctor’s preliminary dianogsis to be heart attack. They sent Janice for autopsy and actual cause of her sudden departure could only be affirmed 3 months later. Till then, we would all still be as puzzled as could be…

Several colleagues, ex-colleagues and friends were at the wake as I attended it too at the next day…

It was Janice’s birthday…
