Woo hoo! Found time for some channel surfing within this self-proclaimed-extended weekend (though I ought to be studying for my driving test tmr)!
Initial thought was somethin’ like, “Aww… what interesting shows would there be during working week-day and furthermore, lunch time…? Duh…” Channel U… Channel 8… Kids Central… Hai… Channel 5… My vision got caught by the scene of continuous fine knife-work on the chooping board, flying parsleys and slimy big longish fruit-like thingy insides dug-outs! Hahaha… Hmmm… a movie on cooking food… But what kind of food? Oh my, the answer sure scored ACEs with me hey! Mouth-watering Mexican? Spanish? Italian? oh ok… Hmm… Mediterranian? Oh I give up! I just don’t know how to classify them either! But damn! They sure looks too good! :D~~
So… what’s the title of the show? “Tortilla Soup”! Which definitely starred more than Soups alone! Found this description on a website that describes the main characters in the movie (with a little “editing” of my own of course).
“Three grown women still live with their father who has one simple rule: Don’t mess with his tradition and his lovingly prepared Sunday evening feast. What could be simpler? Tortilla Soup is a comedy about food, family, romance and love released by Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Carmen (Jacqueline Obradors), beautiful, in and out of relationships and a driven businesswoman, has an opportunity to move to Barcelona and make more money than she’s ever dreamed of and probably even have a nice relationship with her cute boss. Yet eventually she followed her heart into the kitchen like her father, a Master chef!
Little sister Maribel (Tamara Mello), is supposed to be heading off to college in the Fall. Then, upon meeting someone she thinks could be her destiny, she falls in love and moves in with her new boyfriend Andy (Nikolai Kinski), a bohemian free spirit. Who needs college right away? (By the way, this Nikolai guy, he’s quite a cutie… Hohoho…)
School-teacher Leticia (Elizabeth Peña), the oldest of the three sisters, has sworn off most things with the exception of her job and new-found religious devotion. So what is she doing eyeing the new baseball coach (Paul Rodriguez) at school?
Never predictable, Tortilla Soup revolves around the relationships and romantic entanglements of the Naranjo family, headed by patriarch Martin (Hector Elizondo) who insists that Sunday evenings should be spent together. Attendance is non-negotiable. Change is not out of the question, but issues are to be brought up gently.
This is family, so anything goes and things are always simmering beneath the surface. Add Hortensia (Raquel Welch), a lusty neighbor to the pot, and things get even more interesting. What follows is a series of unforgettable Sunday meals—tasty offerings with a bevy of surprises. In this family, you bicker, fight and disapprove. Above all, you cook…and live your own life.”
Isn’t that what our lives is all about as well…?
Some of the reviews mentioned another movie by Ang Lee called “Eat Drink Man Woman” which also has the same storyline. But then again, I think I like the food in this one better! Haha… :P~~
Haha… No wonder the review gave this kinda warning… *Sniff* Hmmm… Say Neighbour! Wat’cha burning on your kitchen stove?!? Wakaka…
